Reflecting for Growth: A Tech Startup Journey with Introstars
This week on Tech Startup Stories, Natalie Binns reconnects with Mike Adams, founder of IntroStars, one year on from their first conversation. What unfolds is a high-energy and deeply human reflection on building a business centred around one simple idea: connecting people to create meaningful opportunities.
Over the past 12 months, IntroStars has grown from an ambitious concept into a platform gaining real traction, driven by community, experimentation, and a belief in the enduring value of human relationships in an increasingly automated world.

Building a Business Around Human Connection
At its core, IntroStars is designed to formalise something that has always existed informally, introductions. The platform enables individuals to connect businesses with potential clients or partners, with the added layer of tracking and rewarding those introductions when they lead to real outcomes.
It is, as Mike describes, about creating a system where everyone benefits. Businesses gain access to opportunities, introducers are rewarded for their network, and relationships are strengthened rather than diluted. In a digital landscape saturated with cold outreach and automated messaging, this model leans into something far more enduring: trust.
Growth Through Community and Momentum
Over the last year, IntroStars has seen steady growth, reaching over 2,000 users and onboarding more than 250 service providers across a wide range of industries. Much of this growth has come not through traditional marketing channels, but through consistent, in-person networking and partnerships with community leaders.
Mike’s approach is deliberately human. Rather than relying solely on digital acquisition strategies, he has focused on building relationships, attending events, hosting dinners, and creating spaces where “super connectors” can come together and engage with the platform in a natural way.
This focus has also driven geographic expansion, with a strong presence now established in London and New York, and plans underway to expand into Silicon Valley.
Solving the Hardest Problem: Behaviour Change
While attracting businesses to the platform proved relatively straightforward, the greater challenge lay in engaging introducers, the very people the platform depends on.
The difficulty was not in convincing them of the value, but in changing behaviour. Many already make introductions regularly, but doing so within a structured platform required a shift in habit.
To address this, the team focused on reducing friction. After multiple iterations, they introduced a recommendation feature that simplifies the process entirely, offering users suggested introductions that can be completed with a single click.
What appears simple on the surface is the result of extensive experimentation, user feedback, and product refinement. It is a reminder that simplicity in user experience is rarely accidental.
Looking Ahead
As IntroStars enters its next phase, the focus is on scaling both the platform and the community around it. Plans include expanding into new cities, increasing partnerships with community leaders, and continuing to grow the network of users and introducers.
At a broader level, Mike envisions a future where being an “introducer” becomes a recognised and valued role, an entirely new way for people to create income and impact through connection.
What makes this story stand out is not just the growth, but the philosophy behind it. In a world increasingly driven by automation and efficiency, IntroStars is built on something slower, more human, and arguably more powerful.
It is a reminder that while technology continues to evolve, the fundamental driver of opportunity remains the same: people.
